The Mr.Vik Leather Care Guide
Premium leather is a natural material that ages beautifully, developing a unique character over time. To ensure your Mr.Vik shoes last a lifetime, follow these care rituals.
The "Rest" Rule
Never wear the same pair of leather shoes two days in a row. Leather needs at least 24 hours to breathe and release the moisture absorbed from your feet. This prevents the leather from warping and eliminates odors.
Cleaning & Dusting
- After Every Wear: Use a soft horsehair brush or a lint-free cloth to remove surface dust.
- Deep Clean: For stubborn dirt, use a damp cloth with a specialized leather cleaner. Never use harsh soaps or detergents.
Conditioning & Polishing
- Condition: Apply a high-quality leather conditioner every 4–6 weeks to keep the hide supple and prevent cracking.
- Polish: Use a cream-based polish matching the color of your shoes to restore shine and cover scuffs.
Storage Essentials
- Shoe Trees: We highly recommend using Cedar Shoe Trees. They maintain the shape of the shoe, pull out moisture, and impart a fresh scent.
- Dust Bags: When not in use, store your shoes in the Mr.Vik flannel dust bags provided in your box to protect them from sunlight and dust.
Dealing with Moisture
If your shoes get wet (e.g., in rain), do not use a hairdryer or place them near a heater. This will cause the leather to become brittle. Instead, stuff them with newspaper and let them dry naturally at room temperature.
